HT - Michael Bird
I'm a Christian, husband, father, pastor and all around goof who believes that God is at His best when man is at His worst.
I love it! Foxes Book of Martyrs meets modern evangelical speak.

My dearest friends, Jeff Adams, PhD., the pastor at Kansas City Baptist Temple (KCBT, as everyone prefers to call it!) in Kansas City, Missouri (www.drjeffadams.com) and his wife, Cheryl, had this picture in their guest room. It's really sad to look at for any length of time, and rather gruesome. When I told Jeff I thought it was creepy, he went in to look at it, since he had never really noticed it--it was a gift from a friend in Spain. He said, as you did, that it sure would discourage someone from being a Christian! I love the caption on this one and will send the link to Jeff and Cheryl. (They've removed the picture from the guest room.)
Best wishes! Tina Lewis Rowe

And, here are two more captions capturing two of our "modern-day" evangelical leaders,
"This is your best day yet" (Osteen)
Here is your wonderful Purpose-Driven future" (Warren)

It just doesn't add up does it.
I can't help thinking of Paul's own testimony to the Corinthian church in the second epistle chapter 11 verses 23b - 30:
"...in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death. Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine {lashes.} Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. {I have been} on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from {my} countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; {I have been} in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. Apart from {such} external things, there is the daily pressure on me {of} concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern? If I have to boast, I will boast of what pertains to my weakness."
