The Supreme Court rules city governments can take property away from one private owner and give it to another if the new owner can generate greater tax revenue or economic benefits than the former - Senseless.
Filing a request with the city to take the property of Justice David Souter in order to build a hotel on that property, which will generate greater tax revenue and economic benefits for the city - Priceless.
Go here to find out about the proposed Lost Liberty Hotel featuring the "Just Desserts Cafe," and a permanent exhibit on the loss of freedom in America. This guy is looking for investors. I don't have much to invest but this is one thing I'l wilingly send a donation to.
David,
This is an incredible decision and a clever rebuttal. It sounds like a joke in a way, but I would love to see it actually happen. If the Lost Liberty Hotel is actually built and Justice Souter is forced to move from his home, that might send a real message to the economic pragmatist that human life is intrinsically valuable within itself. Furthermore, piece of property has more than consumeristic value.
The implications of this court decision are staggering.

Jason - yep. And I am wondering by what rationale the city can deny this request. The Supremes are saying that, if the city determines it will bring greater tax revenue and economic benefits, the city has the right to seize the property. I think there is no doubt that such a hotel would be a tremendous economic success.

I enjoyed reading your blog entry on learned optimism. Recently I was asked to speak at a church and I have really only done work actually out on the mission field. I want to make sure I prepare properly for this assignment. Seeing that you are a pastor, do you know how many written pages it would take to fill a 30 min. session. I have decided to talk about optimisim and living life with the attitude of faith. I am naturally a reserved person so this engagement will be a good thing to get me out of my comfort zone.
