JOLLYBLOGGER: Carnival of the Reformation 2

This post is to announce the 2nd Carnival of the Reformation.

This is a "themed" carnival where each carnival will be on the theme of one of the great slogans of the reformation.

As this one is just in time for Christmas, our theme for this carnival will be Solus Christus - Christ Alone. By the way, for you latin aficianodos, I have seen this one rendered "Solo Christo," and "Solus Christus." I'm not up on my Latin enough to know if one is preferred over the other. In the Cambridge Declaration, they use "Solus Christus." In the above linked article on the slogans of the reformation, Gregg Strawbridge uses "Solo Christo."

So, without further ado, here are the guidelines for submission.

1. Submit a post that is either a defense, explanation, or application of the Reformed doctrine of Solus Christus. Each post should be in accordance with the statements on the person and work of Christ that are found in the major reformed confessions. I would also offer the following statement from the Cambridge Declaration as a guide for submissions.

THESIS TWO: SOLUS CHRISTUS
We reaffirm that our salvation is accomplished by the mediatorial work of the historical Christ alone. His sinless life and substitutionary atonement alone are sufficient for our justification and reconciliation to the Father.

We deny that the gospel is preached if Christ's substitutionary work is not declared and faith in Christ and his work is not solicited.

Note the emphasis on the substitutionary nature of the work of Christ. Entries can be theological essays, exegesis of particular passages of Scripture, or stories and testimonies about Christ's impact on one's life. I would only ask that all submissions focus on the mediatorial work of Christ, rather than moralistic tales or merely cute stories. A cute story is fine, but it should somehow illustrate the mediatorial work of Christ.

2. All entries must be received by Saturday, December 18 at 6:00pm. E-mail all entries to:

Don't under-estimate the power of cute stories. I loved the variety of the last Carnival, and it would be a shame to see that disappear in favour of "serious theology".

The thing is, I don't think the blogosphere is the best medium for serious theology. For one think, it removes biblical teaching from the local church; for another, it may well encourage people into teaching who have neither the gifts nor the calling. On the web, anyone can set himself up as an armchair (or computer chair) theologian.

So I appreciate your requirements, but don't be too strict...
