The defending national champion Florida Gators advanced to the Sweet Sixteen with a 74-67 victory over a scrappy Purdue Boilermaker team.
Now, the Gators are playing a team called "Butler," and a certain "Butler" alumnus who blogs from the left coast, and whose granola is apparently going to his head has taken to taunting the mighty Gators. Apparently, a blog war is erupting? Hmmm . . .
You know me, I enjoy trash-talking about sports as much as anyone but I am at a distinct disadvantage in the trash-talking thing here. I mean, how does one talk trash about a "team" ("Butler?") you have never heard of.
Sure, lots of people talk trash about the Gators and lots of people hate the Gators. I can understand that and I can live with it. I realize that with success comes adulation and hostility. When you have the following pedigree many people are after you:
- 14 NCAA tournament appearances
- 3 final four appearances
- 4 SEC Championships
- 3 SEC Tournament Championships
- Defending National Championships
As I say, with that pedigree we Gators have a bullseye on our backs. Because of this, you can find Gator jokes and people who hate the Gators everywhere - it is the compliment our enemies pay to us. And, we Gators tell all kinds of jokes about some of our storied competitors. After all, we play great teams like Tennessee, former national champs like Arkansas, and we now have a five game winning streak against one of the most storied programs in the history of college basketball - the Kentucky Wildcats. If you want to hear some real trash talk, just wait till the Gators play the Vols or the Cats.
But here I am, facing a game against "Butler" and wondering where I can go to find trash on them. Who are they? Where are they from? Is it Rhode Island? Wyoming? Alaska?
Anyway, I'll be happy to send some trash talk Blogotional's way, I just need to know who and what I am talking about. If you have ever heard of "Butler" please tell me something about them so I can return the taunts.
