Six Improvements to Your Blog - lifehack.org

I found the following post by Chris Brogan at Lifehack - Six Improvements to Your Blog.  I'll just excerpt his advice with my own responses.

  • Display Contact Info Prominently

I don't know about this. He wants you to post all of your contact info including e-mail  addresses, phone #'s, IM's and whatnot.  I'm all for the community aspects of blogging but I just don't want to be that available.  It seems to me that this is good advice for those whose livelihoods are somehow tied to their blogging, but for those of us who blog as a hobby, it seems to me that being that available would take away from your real life exploits and would also be potentially frustrating for yoru blogging friends.

  • Fix Comments-

Basically he says that blogging, by nature, is a dialogue, not a monologue, he loathes blogs that don't allow comments and I think he is implying that it defeats the purpose of the medium.  I tend to agree.  He says that we ought to make it as easy to comment as possible, thus doing away with moderated comments and even the CAPCHA's - those things where you have to type in a code.  I'm going to take his advice for now - I've gotten rid of the CAPCHA.  I originally did it because of spam so we'll see how it goes.

  • Format Your Text

Take the extra time to write “pretty” posts, such as it were.  He advocates using good formatting, making good use of bulleted lists, shorter paragraphs and things like that.   That's good  advice - not that I follow it, but maybe I should.

  • Use Tagging

Yep!

Yep - again I violate that, but I agree, it's important.

  • Stay Vibrant

He says - "Just keep thinking about your 'audience,' and bring them information that matters."  Great advice, it's hard to keep it up, but that seems to be what keeps the successful blogs going.
