Jericho TV Show

Another TV show that I have started watching this season is Jericho.  This is one I will probably stick with.  Ordinarily I would be watching it right now but my wife is out so I'll catch it later on TiVo.

For me, Lost is just pure escapist fun.  Jericho is too, but it also has caused me to think.  A few weeks ago a friend of mine ran this scenario by me.  He said to imagine that a dirty bomb goes off in Washington DC and wipes out the governmental infrastructure.  Imagine the President, the Cabinet and Congress survive but all of the infrastructure that supports our government is gone.  Then he said to imagine that a terrorist group claims credit for this and announces that it has several more bombs placed in major U. S. cities that will go off at set times.

It was interesting to me that soon after that conversation Jericho came on, with its storyline about the survivors of a nuclear holocaust in America.

The questions I have in regards to Jericho and the imaginary scenario above are:

1. Are these realistic scenarios, i.e., could this really happen?

2. If so, what would life be like?

3. Given #2, how would Christians respond?  Not how would Christians defend themselves, but how would American Christians carry out the mission of Christ in such a situation?

4. Is this the kind of thing we ought to give any kind of thought and preparation to now?  In regards to this question I am not asking about whether or not we ought to store supplies or build a fortress in the country, or otherwise go militia. I am more concerned with whether or not we ought to prepare spiritually, ministerially and morally for such a situation?

BTW - I'm not an alarmist and I only have enough food stored up to last me through the week, so I'm not going militia here. I'm just curious as to whether or not this is something we ought to even think about.  Time recently did a story on our allergy to preparing for natural disasters.  So, I am wondering if Christians ought to even think, discuss or prepare for living Christianly should the unthinkable happen.  Thoughts anyone?
