We interrupt the more spiritual aspects of blogging to discuss a matter of monumental importance - the upcoming Florida-Tinnissee game this Saturday at 8:00pm.
Jared Bridges from TruePravda has drawn first blood here with his Gator Hater Week 2005 post. I knew he would something like this and I am only sorry that he beat me to the punch. I feel like I have let down the GatorNation by letting him get the first post up. I find myself now having to do a bit of come from behind trash talking, but I am up to the challenge.
This is one of those classic rivalries where you must choose sides. There can be no waffling, fence sitting or indecision. This is good vs. evil, the good guys vs. the bad guys, Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader, the light side vs. the dark side. You cannot stand in the middle of the battlefield on this one wondering which side to choose for you will most certainly get shot by both sides. So, I am calling on all college football fans everywhere to show your support for the Gators.
Sadly, Jared speaks of Tinnissee fans hatred for America's team, the Florida Gators. He is apparently unaware of the great love and affection the people of this great nation have for the Gators, and the disdain they have for the Voles Vols. Apparently, Jared and other Tennesse fans are wrestling with which percentage of hatred to ascribe to the Gators and which to give to Alabama. Apparently, 30% of their hatred has now been transferred to Alabama.
We Gators don't hate Tinnissee, rather like Clubber Lang said of Rocky, we pity them as they enter the swamp this year. Yet, with pity comes disdain and we have the unique ability to remain fully focused in our disdain for UTinn, knowing that we will be able to call on our reserves to remain equally disdainful later in the year for our other rivals, like JawJa and FSWho.
So please, whoever you are, wherever you are, prepare yourself to support America's team this Saturday at 8:00pm (on CBS) as Tinnissee travels to the SWAMP (aka best football stadium in America) to do battle with the mighty Gators. Do whatever you have to do to watch this game - reschedule the surgery, postpone the wedding a few hours, TIVO those silly little John Roberts hearings (I am sure Judge Roberts would rather be watching this game anyway), in other words, rearrange whatever plans you have to cheer on our Gators!

I've been enjoying the works of a Gator fan?!?!?
Where's that delete button.....

Aw c'mon Gary - you mean the colors of my blog didn't give it away already?
I suppose I should have considered the potential loss of readership that would ensue from a post like this beforeI did it, eh?

Warning: Off Topic
Bekah's right. I think the California surfer-dude picture has to go. On the other hand, you may lose visitors once you show yourself in yout true light as a buttoned-down Presbyterian.

If you are wondering what David Bayly is talking about in that last comment it concerns my picture in the top left hand corner here and you'll need to go here to see where this came from -

But actually, your comment is not all that off-topic David, because in that pic I am proudly wearing my Gator orange and blue.
It's a tough call for me - even though I am not cool, the idea that I could possibly be mistaken for a cool person is quite appealing.

I used to have a deep rooted hatred for the Gators in my heart, I must confess. I graduated from the University of Alabama.
But God was good to me. A few years ago we got to beat the Gators twice in one season, and I felt as if a burden had been lifted. I tell you, I'm a changed man.
Now I can spew my venom towards villains like Tennessee and that other college in Alabama that is not worthy to be named in polite company.

I remember when the SEC was the best conference, those were the days. I'll be at the big ACC matchup between Clemson and Miami this weekend. Go Tigers!
Oh yeah, UF 31 UT 17

Haha! I have been thinking about adding sports to my blog.
I am a Bama fan, went there mostly to 1988 and finally finished up my degree at UAB (ugh, but the school of business is good).
I hope you guys put it to UcheaT this weekend.
I agree with a previous poster, though, the SEC is no longer the top conference. Repeated backstabbings and the mismanagement by our commisioners when quality teams were looking for a conference (VT, FSU, Miami) has cost us a great chance to be the super conference of the 21st century.

You, a Gator fan? Dave, I liked you before you did this post.

I am right there with you, sir. I live in Tallahassee and have been able to garner very little support up here (obviously) in my attempts to rally football fans for this week. Let's run that ball, this week, boys! Go Gators!
